My approach to treating patients
My practice focuses on restoration of function and return to pre-injury activities with cutting edge arthroscopic and minially invasive surgical techniques.
All patients are given a focused and practical approach to both surgical and non-surgical treatment for their injuries.
Dr. Van der Reis completed an orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of California at San Francisco. He then completed a fellowship in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Van der Reis has used this education and ten years of practice to develop a patient centered approach to minimally invasive surgery that uses the safest and most effective techniques available.
Dr. Van der Reis continues to work with athletes, both young and professional, in both injury prevention and surgery. Dr Van der Reis specializes in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery.
Dr. Van der Reis has performed thousands of advanced arthroscopic surgical procedures. In addition to performing these procedures, he also teaches other surgeons how to use these techniques. He performs arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, ankle, elbow, and hip.
Arthroscopic surgery involves the use of highly specialized instruments to perform surgery through very small incisions. The advantages of arthroscopic surgery are clear: smaller incisions, less scar tissue, less pain after surgery, and faster recovery.
Dr. Van der Reis performs the following procedures regularly:
Knee arthroscopy: We use the most advanced techniques for the treatment of meniscal injuries, ACL tears and cartilage damage. Knee ACL & PCL reconstruction Knee meniscus repair Knee osteochondral grafting
Shoulder arthroscopy: Shoulder rotator cuff repair Shoulder bankart reconstruction Shoulder subacromial decompression Shoulder labral (SLAP) repairs
Elbow arthroscopy: Elbow loose body removal
Ankle arthroscopy: Ankle joint debridement
Hip arthroscopy: We treat injuries of the hip labrum with arthroscopic repair techniques. In addition we perform arthroscopic removal of femoro-acetabular impingement lesions to restore function, improve movement and reduce the risk for future arthritis. Hip labral surgery Hip arthroscopic surgery for femoroacetabular impingement.
Cartilage restoration: There are multiple approaches to the treatment of cartilage damage. Dr. Van der Reis uses non-operative (synvisc, PRP, etc.) and operative (microfracture, carticel, etc..) to correct cartilage damage and prevent progression to arthritis.
I treat each an every patient with a thoughtful and decisive plan designed to each person individually.
