My approach to treating patients

As a third generation surgeon, with almost two decades since completion of my fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, the practice of medicine has been significant part of my life.

I specialize in hip and knee joint replacement surgery. My goal is to minimize the chance my patients will ever require more than one operation on their joint. I have published data documenting the outcomes I am able to achieve for my patients.

I have been doing an Anterior-Based, Muscle-Sparing approach to the hip (www.ABMSparing.com), since 2005. Currently I am doing 300 hips/year and have performed over 5000 in my career.

While much of my research has focused on hip replacement, my published results for knee replacement are competitive with all previous reports. Please visit the section to the left, entitled "Patient Education and Info" for detailed information regarding my data.

I have an excellent team of health care providers, led by Jamey Messersmith my Physician’s Assistant. You will find that our personal care will match our surgical results.
