My approach to treating patients

The Yale Hand and Upper Extremity service specializes in the evaluation and management of a broad spectrum of injuries and disorders involving the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. The team consists of physicians who are board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery with added qualification in Hand Surgery. They are members and participate in numerous societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society of Surgery of the Hand, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Members of the team are active in both clinical and basic science research as well as being invited national and international speakers.

Dr. Dodds is a graduate of MCP-Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He then served as a fellow in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at the University of Washington and Harborview Hospitals in Seattle, Washington. After his fellowship he joined the faculty at the Yale University Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Dodds specializes in reconstruction of complex deformity or disability involving the hand and upper extremity that can occur after acute and chronic injuries to nerves, tendons, ligaments, and bone in children and adults. Additionally, he has a special interest in minimally invasive approaches and arthroscopy for joint, ligament, and bone injuries. Dr. Dodds frequently utilizes occupational and physical therapists specifically trained in disorders of the hand and upper extremity to provide complete patient care.

Dr. Dodds believes in treating each patient's individual needs through comprehensive evaluation and treatment designed to help them achieve active, pain-free hand and upper extremity function. He combines leading edge, minimally-invasive techniques with proven traditional methods to provide patients with the best possible care. His clinical practice is based out of Yale New Haven Hospital and Temple Surgical Center. He sees patients in the Yale Department of Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation main office in New Haven, CT and in a satellite office in Middlebury, CT.
