Important Facts about My Practice and Philosophy

Please read this letter then read the material after it:

Dear Patient:

My new address is: 761 Merrick Ave, Westbury, NY 11590. My new telephone number is 516-357-8777.

Many of you know the neighborhood. It is just off Old Country Road in Westbury near the Source Mall and close to a lot of shopping and restaurants. The reason why I made the move is simple: I’ve been renting a space that no longer meets our needs. The New Hyde Park location didn't have enough space, hours, and parking.

As your doctor, I consider your needs whenever I make a change. And I know I’ve made a few changes over the last year - it has been an “exciting ride”. THIS IS A GOOD CHANGE! I am very excited about the new location. The new office is a satellite facility for the Hospital for Joint Diseases. The space is newly and beautifully renovated - the entire facility is devoted to orthopaedic surgery. Additional services available include physical therapy, MRI, pain management, and computerized x-ray. Parking is excellent. I think you will find my new practice location to be a great improvement in terms of comfort, accommodation, and ease of access. For your convenience, all of your medical info will travel with me – you will not be required to fill out additional forms or paperwork.

My office staff and I are dedicated to making the transition as smooth as possible. Anyone calling the old number will be forwarded to the new numbers automatically. In closing, I remain honored to be your doctor. I consider it a privilege to care for you. I will look forward to seeing you in the new office!

This website is designed for you to get as much information about my practice as possible. Please read this entire statement as it will make your visit more efficient, enjoyable, and informative. In the next several paragraphs, my practice history and my practice philosophy are covered.

I see patients in Manhattan and Westbury, Long Island. If you want to be seen in Manhattan or Long Island, call 516-357-8777. All the surgery is done at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in Manhattan.

If you go to the "location and hours" link, you can get a map to each of my locations. There should be no reason to get lost coming to see me! In the "health library" section, there are directions to the Hospital for Joint Diseases that you can download in preparation for your day of surgery.

Please go to the "Forms and Payment" section and print all the documents listed. Fill the documents out completely and bring them to the office. This will shorten your waiting time. Bring your insurance cards to the office. Bring any pertinent referrals. And please bring the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of your family physician and referring physician - full, correct spelling of the names and the full addresses. Communication with your doctor is paramount. Also you are responsible for all copays, coinsurances, and deductibles...please.

If you have seen another orthopaedic surgeon and you are looking for an additional opinion from me, please bring all pertinent tests that have done so I don't have to duplicate effort. Old office notes, operative notes, xrays, blood work, MRIs, CT Scans, and Bone Scans are the most important items you could bring to me for review. You may have to sign a medical information release in order to get these items but I assure you it is worth your effort. Try to procure the information BEFORE the initial consult in my office so I could begin your evaluation with a running start.

Also, bring a book, magazine, newspaper, or computer to the office. Sometimes, the office will get busy and your wait times can get long. I do everything I can to keep my office hours moving. At the same time, I try to give each individual my undivided attention and the appropriate time for evaluation and discussion.

I'm a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who has been in practice for 15 years in the greater New York area. The focus of my practice is hip and knee replacement surgery. I do both primary (first-time) and revision (re-do) procedures for both joints. I also perform hip resurfacing. My cases range from the most straight forward to the most complex.

Although I do plenty of surgery, I still consider my approach conservative. I don't think of myself as a "cutter". I will always defer to non-surgical treatments whenever possible.

I encourage you to review the various patient education materials that I've provided for you on this site. I believe that our relationship is a partnership. I prefer my patients to be educated about their problem and their care. I encourage you to be aggressive with me. Ask questions. If you are dissatisfied, ask more questions. Quite frankly, the more you know, the easier it is for me to provide you appropriate, high quality care.

Lastly, I'd like to disclose my relationship with one of the orthopaedic companies. I am a paid consultant for Smith and Nephew. I am on their hip strategy board and their revision hip advisory panel. I participate in implant design and evaluation. You should know that I use implants from a number of companies but I only consult for S and N.
