My approach to treating patients

Hello, I'm Dr. Scott Oliver. I have been Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth Massachusetts since 1995 and have been named Chief of Surgery in 2015. ---Welcome to my personal Orthopedic website, where you will find useful information concerning our office. Here you can find about our office hours, our location and the services we offer. ---Our practice is one of the premier community programs in the state, with outstanding orthopedic surgeons, all with excellent credentials. We also offer x-ray services and experienced therapists in both physical and occupational (hand) therapy. Together our group of professional health care providers can provide the highest quality community orthopedic care in Massachusetts. ---The BID-Plymouth Orthopedic Surgeons have results that are second to none. Countless times we have been awarded coveted high quality awards for excellence in Orthopedic Surgery. Since 2003, I have personally completed over 4000 total hip and knee replacements, using minimally invasive techniques, with computer technology. All of my hip and knee surgeries are completed with an intra-operative computer, assuring an excellent alignment of the prosthesis and an excellent result. I have been a Stryker consultant for over a decade, and this provides me with me with information about new products and techniques. We have been using the Stryker Triathlon Knee Replacement since 2005 with great success. I have the MAKO robot on site, with high tech coming into the operating room, with the addition of robotic surgery for partial knee replacements. I personally have completed the most robotic partial knee replacements in Eastern Massachusetts. And now MAKO patients have been discharged just 4 hours after surgery to home, directly discharged from the recovery room, with an excellent patient satisfaction rate. All of these new advancements result in a "fusion of new techniques with new technologies". ---Our infection rate is almost non existent. We continue to sponsor our "MRSA Program", a first for a community hospital, that began January 2008. All patients scheduled for joint replacement at the Jordan are screened preoperatively for MRSA, the bacteria that can cause devastating infections. If a patient tests positive then a program of special cleansing and appropriate antibiotics is initiated at the time of surgery. This screening continues to help our results. Once a month, our entire Orthopedic Pathway Team sits down and reviews our program to continue to constantly improve our results. ---Please feel free to browse through the Health Library, reviewing topics to find information that may be useful to you. We believe that it is very important for patients and their family members to understand their medical condition and the various treatments that may be offered, so that we can work with shared-decision-making when it comes to your orthopedic health. We hope that the resources provided here will be helpful to you. It has been our goal to provide residents of the Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and all of New England with excellence in orthopedic care. Our physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, xray technologists and office staff are dedicated to fulfilling this commitment to you. Our goal is to make your wish come true. ---Updated August 2016
