My Approach to Treating Patients
Dr. Rogersons mission is to provide state-of-the-art orthopaedic care of the shoulder, hip and knee uncompromised by financial incentives or medical politics while treating each patient like a family member.
Dr. Rogerson has practiced orthopaedic medicine in Madison, Wisconsin for more than 24 years. A fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Rogerson specializes in care of the shoulder, hip and knee with expertise in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, reconstructive surgery and joint replacement.
Dr. Rogerson has been an innovator in the area of arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and has introduced several new techniques to the national Shoulder Arthroscopy Study Group.
In addition to authoring several chapters in medical textbooks on arthroscopic surgical technique, Dr. Rogerson has given many presentations to national physician groups and has been particularly active in the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He enjoys teaching other surgeons about arthroscopic surgical techniques and has been a Master Instructor at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Chicago on numerous occasions.
At the other end of the spectrum from the minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, Dr. Rogerson is a well-respected reconstructive surgeon of the shoulder, hip and knee. He has been one of this areas more active total joint replacement surgeons, utilizing state-of-the-art laminar air flow and hood filtration systems in all of his cases to lessen the potential for infection. He was one of the first surgeons in the region to utilize computer-generated, custom, total joint replacements in selected cases.
Other Staff in My Practice
Renee Burke, PAC Renee has a special interest in patient education. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin Physician Assistant Program, she has worked in orthopaedics and with Dr. Rogerson for 15 years. She is his first assistant on all complicated cases, and participates in pre-operative education, post-operative hospital rounds and office follow-up. She also has been an active participant in the education of physician assistant students at the University of Wisconsin Medical School Physician Assistant Program, overseeing numerous orthopaedic externships. Renee and her husband, Dan, have two children: Ali, 13, and Westin, 8. In her spare time, she enjoys helping at school, watching her children play sports, trying new recipes and gardening.
Janel M., R.T.R. Janel has been a radiologic technologist for 21 years in several medical practices. She has worked in orthopaedics with Dr. Rogerson for 19 years. She is a master at taking the many complex X-ray views that are needed in a sophisticated orthopaedic practice. When not taking X-rays, Janel functions in almost all other office roles as needed. Janel and her husband, Jeff, have three children: Jennifer, 19, Justin, 17, and Jordan, 10. When not at work, Janel enjoys reading, gardening, and camping with the family.
Cindy R., R.T., NMT As a graduate of the Radiology Technology Program at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Cindy worked as a Nuclear Medicine Technician while helping to put her husband, Dr. Rogerson, through his medical school and internship years. Prior to working in the office Cindy held the position of Director of Tourism & Volunteer Services at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. Presently, she enjoys her role as Comptroller and helping out on occasion as a receptionist. When time permits, both she and Dr. Rogerson enjoy traveling. They have two adult children. Their son, Kyle, graduated in Industrial Design (Product Design) and Psychology from the University of Washington and now lives in Seattle. Their daughter, Joanna, graduated from the Physician's Assistant Program at the University of Wisconsin and will be joining Dr. Rogerson to provide exceptional patient care in 2004.
Cathy G., Surgical Coordinator Cathy has been a surgical coordinator in Orthopaedics for 20 years. In addition, she oversees all of the OSHA, medical supply and safety issues. Cathy graduated with a BA from UW Madison. She and her husband, Eric, have one daughter, Alison, 22, who is a recent UW Madison graduate. In Cathys spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and teaching first grade religion classes.
Jacquie R., Receptionist/Secretary Jacquie has been Dr. Rogersons secretary for 19 years. She has been an integral part of his successful busy practice, acting as receptionist and transcriptionist. Currently she is semi-retired working part time as a receptionist. Prior to working with Dr. Rogerson, Jacquie worked in the medical transcription field for 23 years. Jacquie has three children: her daughter Lynn, an administrative assistant for Master Graphics, and two sons; Jim, a carpenter with Hensen Builders and John, a computer specialist with Torcom. In her spare time, Jacquie enjoys reading, music, writing, walking, her grandson, Jacob and granddaughters, Carley and Emily.
Tracy H., R.T.R. Tracy is the newest addition to our staff. She is a registered X-ray technician. Along with assisting in taking X-rays, she is helping at the front desk. Her background training has been at an area hospital as well as other clinics. Tracy and her husband, Roger, have two children, Megan, 15, and Miles, 12. Her interests, when not working, are reading, gardening, stained glass and traveling.
Kathleen G., CPC, Office Manager/Secretary Kathleen brings the whole office together, overseeing its efficient operation in a helpful, friendly tone. She addresses the business details and the insurance concerns with our patients. She also interfaces with Medicare and the various managed care entities as well as coordinating personnel issues. She has worked in medical insurance and data organization settings for 24 years. Kathleen and her husband, Brent, have a daughter, Tressa, 16, who is in tenth grade. Kathleens outside interests include traveling, reading and camping.
My Community Activities
John S. Rogerson, M.D., graduated Phi Beta Kappa magna cum laude from Dartmouth College with a Bachelors of Science degree and as a Rufus Choate Scholar. He received his medical degree from the University of Iowa Medical School and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. His internship was completed at McKennan Hospital in South Dakota and his orthopaedic residency the University of Wisconsin Hospitals. Dr. Rogerson is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and serves as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine.

As an active member of AANA, Dr. Rogerson served on the Association's Board of Directors from 1996 to 1999. He also served on the Education Committee from 1991 to 1993, and as chairman of the Membership Committee from 1995 to 1999.
Dr. Rogerson currently is secretary of the Board of Directors of AANA, vice-chair of the Orthopaedic Learning Center Committee and a member of the Health Policy Committee in 2003 and 2004.
His more recent arthroscopic interests include cartilage preservation and regeneration techniques, and arthroscopy of the hip to forestall arthritis.
At the other end of the spectrum from the truly minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, Dr. Rogerson is a well respected reconstructive surgeon of the shoulder, hip and knee. He has been one of area's more active total joint replacement surgeons, utilizing state-of-the-art laminar air flow and hood filtration systems in all of his cases to lessen the potential for infection. He was one of the first surgeons in the region to utilize computer-generated, custom, total joint replacements in selected cases. Currently, he is advancing minimally invasive techniques into the joint replacement area. He is also progressing into alternative bearing surfaces and "resurfacing" in the shoulder and hip.

Dr. Rogerson and his wife, Cindy, have two children: Kyle and Joanna. Kyle graduated from the University of Washington and is an Industrial Designer living in Seattle. Joanna is a graduate from the University of Wisconsin Physician's Assistant Program and will be starting a practice in 2004. Cindy has been an active volunteer in the Madison community since arriving in 1976. She worked as the Director of Tourism and Volunteers for the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center for three years. She presently helps out working part-time for Dr. Rogerson's office.
In his spare time, Dr. Rogerson enjoys tennis, boating, sailing and artwork. He produced the medical illustrations for his total hip and knee educational pamphlets in his office.
