My approach to treating patients

I have personal experience recovering from injury and surgery and I understand the injury/surgery/recovery process from a patient's perspective. I know that the whole process is scary and requires a lot of faith in your doctor. I do my very best to make the experience as smooth as possible and I strive to minimize the worries that come with injury. Dealing with the injury is hard enough, worrying about "will I ever be back to normal?" can drive you nuts. I know because I've been there. I hope that my experience as a patient has made me a better doctor and has translated into better experiences for my patients.

I focus on treatment of sports related injuries, with emphasis on shoulder and knee problems. However, I take care of all manner of orthopedic conditions.

I treat all types of athletes, from pee-wee league players to pros, and from weekend warriors to ironman triathletes. As an athlete myself, I understand the need to get back to one's sport of choice after an injury. Most injuries can be treated without surgery, but when surgery is necessary, I use arthroscopic small incision techniques that allow for quicker recovery, less pain, and smaller scars.

During treatment, patients can expect a thorough examination, frequent check-ups, and explanations in laymans terms to make it easy to understand their diagnosis.

In addition to my work in the office and the operating room, I have been the consulting Orthopedic Surgeon for the Robbie Wagner Tennis Tournament Center, the Long Island Tigers Baseball Academy, and www.backofthenet.com, Long Island's Soccer Message Board. I also have written a health and fitness column for Eastern Surf Magazine and consulted for the health and fitness forum for www.nynjsurf.com, a local surfing website. In 2011, I had the honor of being on the medical staff for the Quiksilver Pro Surfing contest in Long Beach, an amazing experience.
