My approach to treating patients

“I believe we should treat our patients as if they were our mom, dad, brother, sister or any other loved one.” This motto is reflected in every relationship Dr. Nichols fosters with his patients. Dr. Nichols firmly believes surgery should be considered only after all conservative treatments have been exhausted.

A native of San Diego, Dr. Nichols enjoys golfing, cycling, sailing and skiing. He appreciates his patients need to stay active at any age. From sports injuries to total joint replacements, one of the greatest rewards for Dr. Nichols is helping his patients improve their quality of life.

Dr. Nichols received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from San Diego State University and his Medical Degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency in Orthopaedics at McGill University and his fellowship in Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery of the Hand and Upper Extremity at Loma Linda University.

Dr. Nichols is a Board Certified Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a Board Certified Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a Qualified Medical Examiner and has been an Associate Professor at UCSD Medical Center, Department of Orthopaedics since 1993. He served as Chief of Orthopaedics at Scripps Encinitas Hospital from 1995 to 2000 and from 2002 to present.

Dr. Nichols treats all general orthopaedic and sports conditions and has subspecialty expertise in hand and upper extremity.
