Getting to know your Orthopedic Surgeon:
Before becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Steven Miller spent nearly a decade as a Mechanical and then as an Aerospace Engineer.
After graduating with honors from one of the nations federal academies, he took a job at Newport News Shipbuilding Company where he contributed to the design of the nuclear power plants that propel our nation's fleet of Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. Later while working for General Electric's Aircraft Engine Division, he made significant contributions to the design of several commercial aircraft jet engines and then to the development of stealth technology for military jets. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Ohio and is licensed to practice medicine in Nebraska, West Virginia, Ohio, Kansas and Florida.
After graduating in the top 10% of his class at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, he completed the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program at the University of Florida. Since completing residency, he has been in private practice, first in Kansas, then in Athens, Ohio where he served as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital and as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He returned to the midwest in Nov 2010 and resides in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
During his undergraduate training at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Dr. Miller served aboard 5 different Merchant ships visiting 13 countries on 5 continents. He played football in college and was a nationally-ranked Golden Gloves boxer. The lessons learned by living, working and competing at so many different levels, with so many different cultures have been invaluable and have confirmed to Dr. Miller that we have many more similarities than differences suggesting that maybe we really do all belong to one family.
