My approach to treating patients
Welcome to OAD Orthopaedics!
I am originally from Sterling Heights, Michigan. I am a graduate of the University of Michigan and earned my medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Following my residency in orthopedic surgery at the Northwestern University School of Medicine, I completed a fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery at the Indiana Hand Center. I have served as an active duty orthopedic surgeon and hand surgeon in the United States Navy. I have also worked as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopedics at the Northwestern University School of Medicine. I joined OAD Orthopaedics in 2008.
My practice is focused on the treatment of disorders of the hand and upper extremity in children and adults. My specialty interest includes surgery of the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow. I have a particular interest in arthroscopy, fracture care, overuse syndromes, carpal tunnel syndrome, and arthritis disorders. It brings me great pleasure to apply state-of-the-art proven procedures to improve function, alleviate pain, and restore an active lifestyle.
It is my mission to be your premiere provider, educator, and advocate in the prevention and treatment of upper extremity disorders.
When not practicing medicine, I am an avid sportsman and outdoor enthusiast. I enjoy running, fishing, skiing, kayaking and hiking in the outdoors with my family.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to further improve your experience at OAD Orthopaedics. My goal is to provide you the best medical care available.
I look forward to meeting with you.
Sincerely,
Richard Makowiec, M.D.
