My background and current practice

Your health and quality of orthopaedic care are my top priorities.
My specialized training allows me to treat and cure back and neck pain without an incision and on an outpatient basis. Simple but effective pain relief injections (epidural and facet) are done painlessly in the clinic with our state of the art equipment. If your problem requires a more involved treatment, then you will be relieved to know that I am one of a very few surgeons who perform traditionally large, involved, and risky procedures without or with "mini-open" techniques. These procedures include percutaneous disc decompression(removing herniated discs through a port the size of a needle) , percutaneous kyphoplasty (rebuilding collapsed spine bones through a port half the size of a pencil), and most importantly percutaneous spine fusions (usually done through large incision which I do through two small incision as an outpatient procedure) . To complement my surgical techiques, I have a knowledgable and specialized spine rehabilitation team.
I have additional certification in orthopaedic sports medicine which allows me to use the most up-to-date arthroscopic techniques for the knee, shoulder, ankle and foot, wrist, and elbow to return patients to their activities as soon as possible. In addition, for patients with a worn out hip or knee joint, I use minimally invasive techniques with very small incisions. This cuts the hospital stay and speeds recovery.
With an extra year of specialized foot and ankle training, I am one of a handful of surgeons in the bay area performing ankle replacements instead of fusing the ankle. One of my interests is in the correction of severe foot and ankle deformities.
Since I spent an extra year in medical school doing research, I am currently doing clinical studies in conjunction with Stanford University professors. I also teach and mentor students and residents as part of my practice, so you may see aspiring doctors in the office.
We are up-to-date with the use of all of the latest technologies. For example, we use the latest shockwave technology to cure conditions such as shoulder and elbow tendonitis and plantar fasciitis without an incision.
MY PHILOSOPHY
Although having a surgeon who is technically excellent is very important, I strongly believe the most successful patient care results from a two-way treatment process.
From the very first visit, I make a conscious effort to establish a warm, friendly rapport with each of my patients to encourage open and direct communication.
I listen to your needs, include them in my diagnosis and treatment decisions, and welcome your input and feedback each step of the way.
Any injury causes you concern and anxiety - you may not know what is wrong and what needs to be done to correct your injury. My main approach to helping heal your injury is to keep you well informed - through dialogue between us and through external sources of information that are available. It is my job to help you understand why I take, or do not take, certain actions.
When you come to see me as your orthopaedic surgeon, surgery is not your only option. Sometimes through rehabilitation and available prescriptions, your injury may be healed. If you do require surgery, I'll keep you informed of why surgery is required, what will be done in the surgery, and what to expect as an eventual outcome after surgery.
