Important Considerations
Before building your web site, please give some thought to these items:
- Selecting your web site address (URL): All AAOS-sponsored web sites begin with http://OrthoDoc.aaos.org/xxxxxx where "xxxxxx" is your choice. Examples could be:
Pick a name (URL) that is easy to remember, that describes either you or your practice, and that isn't so long that people will have trouble typing it.
Then make sure that your web site's address is included on your business cards, your patient education literature, Yellow Pages listings, etc.
Important Note: You can change your web site's address in the future if you want by returning to the web site maintenance screens (under Administrative Information). However, once you have publicized the existing address, this may not be beneficial.
- Homepage message: The homepage of your web site
contains three sections:

Please give careful consideration to these sections, particularly the first. This is where you can differentiate yourself from other practices and where you can highlight the special services that you provide to your patients.
- Patient education materials: You can select any or all of the patient education materials (fact sheets, brochures, booklets, etc.) in Your Orthopaedic Connection (OrthoInfo.aaos.org) to include with your web site. Here are the advantages:
- The material becomes part of your site - accessible from the Patient Information link on your homepage
- The return links in the patient education material point back to your site
- Fact sheets and brochures will be co-branded with your name, logo, and primary address
- All material is peer-reviewed by AAOS-sanctioned committees
This area is a potential time-saver for you and your staff and allows your patients and prospective patients to learn about the various diseases and treatment options you specialize in.
