My approach to treating patients
Dr. Casas is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in the management of malignant and benign bone and soft tissue tumors (sarcoma or bone cancer), cancer metastatic to bone, bone infections (osteomyelitis), and complex joint replacements. He is an expert in limb preserving surgery, which involves removal of a bone or soft tissue tumor or infection without amputation.
Dr. Casas and his associate, Dr. Gerhard Maale, employ a team approach in the treatment of all of their patients. All cases are reviewed in a weekly multidisciplinary conference involving orthopaedic surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, infectious disease specialists, plastic surgeons, and internists. This ensures a state-of-the-art treatment plan tailored to each individual patient. Our comprehensive team approach has allowed many of our patients to lead disease-free lives.
Dr. Casas' research interests include the treatment of soft tissue sarcomas, metastatic bone disease, and benign bone tumors. He has co-authored scientific papers on the diagnosis and treatment of tumors and infections of the musculoskeletal system.
