My approach to treating patients
Dear Patients and Significant Others,
Welcome to my practice in Orthopaedic Surgery. I am a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with fellowship training in both Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine. I write this letter to provide an introduction to my background, education, and training, but more so to describe my philosophy of musculoskeletal care.
First of all, you might want to know a bit about me. I am not originally from California, but after working at Stanford University I fell in love with the people, environment, and the active lifestyle that defines being in the Bay Area. I am originally from Annapolis, Maryland, and underwent the great majority of my schooling on the East Coast. Outside of work and school, sports have always been a part of my life, and while I have given up the contact sports of my youth I attempt to run, bike, ski, and golf with some regularity.
My core philosophy of medicine stems from both my father and from time spent at Georgetown University as a medical student and resident. Growing up I saw my father practice as a small town pediatrician. He showed an unwavering commitment to his patients and showed me the humanistic side of medicine. Attending house calls with him helped cement these ideals in my mind. The medical school at Georgetown held the Jesuit ideal of “cura personalis,” or care for the whole person, as its foundation. To me this means listening to each individual, trying to understand a person’s perspective, and forming a partnership with person you are trying to help.
Integral to this partnership and decision making process is my formal fellowship training in both Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy. Through this experience I have gained an expertise in both surgical and non-surgical treatments about the shoulder, hip, and knee. Please look at patient testimonials which I have available on this website, and through open, honest communication I look forward to getting you better.
Sincerely,
Bradley Graw MD
