My approach to treating patients
Dear Patients and Significant Others,
Welcome to my practice in Orthopaedic Surgery! I write this letter to provide an introduction to my background, education, and training, but more so to describe my philosophy of musculoskeletal care. First of all, you might want to know a bit about me. I am not originally from California, but after working at Stanford University as a fellow I fell in love with the people, environment, and the active lifestyle that defines being in the Bay Area. I am originally from Annapolis, Maryland and underwent the great majority of my schooling on the East Coast. Outside of work and school, sports have always been a part of my life. I was a collegiate lacrosse player but played lots of other sports while growing up, with basketball, soccer, and football as highlights. While I continue to play lacrosse, I also attempt to ski, cycle, and golf with some regularity.
Much of my perspective on medicine and surgery stems from my education at Georgetown University where I attended medical school and finished orthopaedic residency. The Jesuit ideal of “cura personalis,” or care for the whole person was integral to my experience. To me this means listening to each individual, trying to understand a person’s perspective, and forming a partnership as a treatment plan is crafted for each patient.
Integral to this partnership and decision making process is my formal fellowship training in both Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy. Through this experience I have gained an expertise in most surgical treatments about the shoulder, hip, and knee. With confidence I can have a discussion about treatment options that are available to you. Also, having worked at both the A.I. Dupont Hospital for Children (Wilmington, DE) and Children's National Medical Center (Washington, DC) for nearly one year combined I am competent in evaluating general pediatric orthopaedic issues including fractures and athletic injuries.
I am very excited to take on the responsibility of your care and think that practicing within S.O.A.R. will enhance your experience. If I recommend a referral to one of my orthopaedic, rehabilitation, or rheumatology colleagues it is because they are best suited to help you with your problem. Through honest, open communication in this team environment I will work hard to get you feeling better! On this note, our practice is working diligently to improve our communication with patients and families. While website improvements and electronic records are around the corner please I hope you will work with us as we make your experience better. And, of course, we are always open to suggestions.
Sincerely,
Bradley Graw MD

At Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation (SOAR), we specialize in sports medicine, orthopedic surgery, and rehabilitative medicine. SOAR is located in Redwood City close to Stanford University and Sequoia Hospitals, with additional offices in San Francisco and San Jose.
Our patient population is comprised of professional and recreational athletes, patients with work related injuries, patients with general musculoskeletal injuries, and patients with problems or limitations as a result of arthritis requiring any kind of surgical or non-surgical care.
SOAR is proud to provide medical care for the San Francisco 49ers, the San Francisco Giants, Stanford University and Santa Clara University athletic teams, the United States Olympic Team, members of the San Jose Ballet, and many other high-profile Bay Area athletes.
Of course, these patients expect "state of the art" care. Although professional athletes are exciting to treat, we are committed to providing the same level of care to all of our patients.
