Approach to Treating Patients
Dr. Phillips trained as a general surgeon in Great Britain prior to entering orthopedic training in the United States. His broad knowledge and experience as a British surgeon brings a perspective to the practice that is novel and innovative. His special interests include neck problems in children, trauma, neuromuscular disorders, and spinal deformity. Dr. Phillips has developed and patented a unique fixation device for treating femur fractures in children. These fractures have problems that adults dont have because of the growth plates and the special circulation to growing bones. Dr. Phillips device addresses these problems and is being used throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Dr. Knapp hails from West Virginia and has additional training in highly complex spinal deformity in children. He has had additional training in innovative methods developed in Korea as well as new methods developed in the United States. Dr. Knapp also manages children with congenital and acquired amputations in addition to his general interest in trauma and other aspects of pediatric orthopedics.

Dr. Birnbaum manages congenital and traumatic problems of the upper extremity in children. He is probably the hardest worker in the group and is always available to see consultations or assist with difficult cases of any type.

Dr. Herrera-Soto trained in Puerto Rico and Cincinnati. Then he was on the faculty at Penn State University prior to joining our group. Dr. Herrera-Soto is an accomplished spine surgeon He also recently completed a special fellowship in Switzerland where he studied new methods for complex hip surgery in children and young adults with early onset arthritis. He has published several scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and has been a speaker at national and international meetings.

Dr. Albright completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Iowa, one of the most prestigious academic programs in the U.S. Following a pediatric orthopedic fellowship in San Diego, he then completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship in Cincinnati. This makes Dr. Albright one of a handful of orthopedic surgeons in the United States who is uniquely qualified to care for sports injuries in children and adolescents. He is a skilled arthroscopist and applies these minimally invasive surgical skills to other areas of pediatric orthopedics, including spine surgery. In addition to all of this, Dr. Albright is developing an outreach program in China for non-operative treatment of congenital clubfoot deformity.

Dr. Price has contributed to the advancement of pediatric orthopedics in the area of limb lengthening, limb deformity correction, non-operative and operative management of scoliosis, and certain hip disorders in children. He is internationally known for his clinical and academic achievements including numerous scientific publications and book chapters on a variety of subjects. He brings a perspective of experience that is extremely valuable to the group. The Pediatric Orthopedists are committed to the highest quality of surgical care in every case. The entire group meets to review every case to be performed the following week and convenes again after surgery to discuss cases and teach the residents and fellows treatment decisions and surgical decision making. Together the six pediatric orthopedists have 78 years of experience.
