My Approach to Care
Doctor Malone is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1995. He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati, which included nine months at The Children’s Hospital of Cincinnati. In 2001, he completed a fellowship at the Center for Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery at the University of Southern California Hospital under Drs. Robert Watkins and Lytton Williams. His training dealt with all aspects of spinal pathology with a particular emphasis on the treatment of sports-related spine injury.
Doctor Malone has treated and operated on athletes from the NFL, NHL, PGA and other professional arenas, as well as college and high school athletes. Although most patients are not elite athletes, his treatment goal is a rapid restoration of the patient’s pre-injury level of activity through the use of conservative modalities or surgery, if required. Doctor Malone employs minimally invasive techniques as well as complex anterior and posterior procedures in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine for trauma, deformity and degenerative conditions. He is a fellow of the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Doctor Malone’s treatment approach is to assess each patient’s unique issues by carefully listening to, observing and examining the patient. After proper diagnosis, his goal is to assist the patient in deciding a treatment plan by educating the patient and identifying their goals and expectations. Treatment typically involves an initial trial of conservative modalities such as medication and physical therapy, among others. Only after these have been exhausted will other techniques be employed.
Originally a native of Wilmington, Dr. Malone has recently returned to Delaware and moved his practice to Kent County. He looks forward to meeting you.
