My approach to treating patients
Whether you're making the decision for orthopaedic care, or would just like to expand your knowledge, I hope this site helps you become informed and more confident about the incredible realm of orthopaedic treatments available.
As an experienced physician with nearly 25 years of specialization in orthopaedics (and almost 20 years in Panama City), I take a highly personal approach to caring for my patients. I believe the most important aspects of providing quality care are listening to the needs of patients, presenting state-of-the-art treatment options and assisting patients obtain the best possible treatment, including advanced surgical techniques, such as minimally invasive surgery known as "arthroscopy", when necessary. For example, I was the first in Panama City to perform all-scope repairs of rotator cuff tears back in 1993.
Williams Shoulder & Sports Medicine specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder and sports medicine disorders, and arthroscopic treatment of these and other problems including surgery of the hand and upper extremity. My practice is unique in that we provide a "super-specialized" level of care for these types of problems. When noninvasive treatment fails, I offer state-of-the-art solutions, such as joint fluid therapy and/or arthroscopic surgery. I have a special interest in minimally invasive arthroscopic solutions to common problems. I have been performing all arthroscopic repairs of dislocating shoulders (AKA, labral or SLAP tears) and for tears of the rotator cuff since 1993 after finishing my one-year fellowship with shoulder arthroscopy pioneer and innovator, Dr. Steve Snyder (http://www.scoi.com/doctors/sjs.htm). I enjoy the challenge of providing second opinions of previously operated and/or failed shoulder surgeries, particularly "irreparable rotator cuff tears". I have a great deal of experience with failed shoulder surgery and have achieved favorable surgical results with these problems even after other surgeons have given up. An example is a gentleman from Perry, FL who had cuff surgery in Tallahassee without relief. He drove 3.5 hours each way to see me but said it was worth it since his shoulder pain was relieved after I repaired his cuff in 2012 with a scope.
When you come to see me as your orthopaedic surgeon, I will utilize surgery as a last resort. Sometimes through rehabilitation and available prescriptions, your problem may be alleviated in a nonoperative manner. If you do require surgery, my 25 years of surgical experience will help inform you of why surgery may be considered, what will be done in the surgery, how long your surgery and recovery may take, and to provide a reasonable expectation for an eventual outcome after surgery. I believe in empowering patients to help them make informed decisions about their healthcare.
I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you, and to help you achieve your best possible musculoskeletal health.
