Approach to treating patients

The practitioners at Shelter Rock Orthopedic Group have been providing a full range of orthopedic services to the Long Island and New York City communities since 1972.

Shelter Rock Orthopedic Group specializes in the care and treatment of adults and children with orthopedic disorders. All of our practitioners are licensed by the State of New York, are board certified and are extensively trained in the medical and surgical treatment of muscoloskeletal conditions. Our practitioners and staff work together to provide a full range of orthopedic diagnostic and treatment services.

Dr. Rich specializes in total joint replacement of the hip and knee; he is an Assistant Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at HSS specializing in hip and knee surgery. He is also an Associate Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He has also been an instructor in surgery at Cornell University Medical College since 1983, and was appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2005. Dr. Rich was appointed to serve as the first Associate Director of Alumni Affairs after having been an active alumnus and member of the Alumni Affairs Committee. He works with the Alumni Affairs committee to guide and execute strategic initiatives to support the growing network. Dr. Rich received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency at Roosevelt Hospital (1978-1979) and HSS (1979-1982). Aside from his involvement in the Alumni Association, Dr. Rich is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, American Academy of Orthopaedics Surgeons, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, among other societies. Dr. Rich currently sees patients in our Uniondale office.

Dr. MacGillivray provides complete and comprehensive sports medical and surgical care. He is an Associate Attending Orthopedic Surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He currently serves as Team Physician to the US Ski Team. He has also served as an Orthopedic Consultant for the New York Giants, the National Hockey League Players' Association team physician for St. John's University, the New York Saints Professional Lacrosse Team and the US Snow Boarding Team. He currently sees patients in Manhasset @ 585 Plandome Road, Suite 106.

We are affiliated with the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, which has been rated the best orthopedic hospital in the United States by US News & World Report.

We have a long association with North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn. These two hospitals have been rated as two of the best hospitals in the United States by AARP.
