My approach to treating patients

I am a board certified orthopedic surgeon in my twentieth year of practice in the Worcester community. Prior to this I completed an orthopedic residency in Boston and before that sampled the sights and cuisine of Baltimore while attending the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. In these twenty years I have seen the gamut of orthopedic patients while having the chance to perform over three thousand total joint replacements.Such surgery can be a godsend to the patient and very gratifying for the surgeon in terms how much of a difference this can make for the patient When I see a patient in my office my goal is to offer them the treatment I would hope a member of my own family would receive.Such treatment oftentimes starts with conservative nonsurgical approaches including physical therapy, medications, and injection therapy. However if a patient presents having tried months or years of such options and are now resigned to the surgery I will not put their surgery off.As far as I know life is not a rehearsal. In these twenty years I have done a number of different total joint designs and approaches. I continue through courses and continuing education to refine my skills and add new approaches when indicated. I now perform many of my knee replacements with the aid of a computer imaging system and utilize rotating tibial platform designs. I also have been very impressed lately at how quickly my total hip replacement patients recover after a minimally invasive two incision surgical technique.I don't take a cookbook approach but try to tailor the treatment to the individual patient. My goal is to try to return my patient to their maximal function.
