My approach to treating patients
"I believe that physicians should treat each and every patient as they would a member of their own family. It is in this way that patients get the very best care. In my practice, I strive to educate patients about their condition and medical options. I encourage them to play an active part in all aspects of their treatment. The patient is the most vital member of the health care team."
About Dr Brown
|Ouida L, Brown, M.D. is featured in the April 2009, TOP DOCTORS issue of Philadelphia Magazine - "64 RISING STARS The Next Generation of Great Philly Docs."|
Ouida L, Brown, M.D. Joins Delaware Valley Orthopaedic Associates (DVOA) following a Sports Medicine Fellowship (2007-2008) at Booth, Bartolozzi and Balderston Orthopaedics, Pennsylvania Hospital, part of the University of Pennsylvania Health Systems. As a Sports Medicine Fellow, she was on the medical staff of Philadelphia’s professional soccer team, the Kixx, and was team physician for West Chester College.
Before attending medical school, Dr. Brown was a licensed physical therapist for three years. It was during this period -- while responsible for the rehabilitation of injured post-surgery athletes -- that she decided to further her education and pursue a career in medicine. Several years later, as an orthopaedic resident, she developed a love of sports medicine while working with James Andrews, M.D., an orthopaedic surgeon internationally recognized for his clinic research contributions in knee, shoulder and elbow injuries.
Dr. Brown has co-authored an orthopaedic text book chapter with Dr. Craig Morgan, a world-renown authority on shoulder and knee disorders and personal physician to several major league baseball teams, Olympic athletes, LPGA players, as well as a host of other professional athletes. In addition, she has received an award from the Philadelphia Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine for her research on kinetic chain deficits in throwing athletes.
Dr. Brown's training and expertise also include general orthopaedics -- the treatment of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Her primary objective is restoring pain-free function to patients through either surgical or non-surgical intervention. Dr. Brown is a compassionate person with the ability to build rapport with her patients and their families. She is currently accepting new patients in both our Northeast Philadelphia and Burlington County, NJ offices.
