KEITH MONCHIK, M.D. is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon, with a subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, who is a Rhode Island native and a graduate of Moses Brown School. He completed his general orthopaedic residency at Brown University where he was the recipient of the prestigious Haffenfreffer House Staff Excellence Award. He obtained an advanced fellowship in orthopaedic trauma at Rhode Island Hospital, followed by a second fellowship in Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine, also at Brown University. Dr. Monchik currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Brown University Warren Alpert Medical school. DR. MONCHIK has served as an Assistant to the Team Physicians of the Providence Bruins AHL Hockey Team, Brown University Collegiate Sports Teams and Rhode Island high schools. He currently serves as a team physician for Johnson & Wales University, and several schools in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and an Active member of the Rhode Island Medical Society, Rhode Island Orthopedic Society, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine. He also currently serves on the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s Sports Medicine Advisory Committee. DR. MONCHIK is a frequent lecturer, both locally and nationally, and has published numerous articles and book chapters on various topics in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine and arthroscopy. Several times each year he serves as an Associate Master instructor in shoulder and knee surgery at the national level for the Arthroscopy Association of North America. DR. MONCHIK has been a member of the Rhode Island Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) for 14 years. As a member of this team, he has been part of many Federal disaster responses including the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York City. After the January Haiti earthquake, he was part of the Federal deployment to augment the National Disaster Medical System's (NDMS) International Medical/Surgical Team (IMSurT). Stationed in Port a Prince at the Gheskio Clinic, the IMSurtT team functioned as a stand alone field hospital treating nearly 200 patients daily and conducting over 100 surgeries in the first 2 weeks alone. The team treated all areas of injury, both acute and nonacute, including: orthopaedics, OB/GYN, general surgery, trauma and pediactrics. Dr. Monchik has authored several journal articles and chapters on disaster response, and has been an instructor in courses and on panels at the Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association several times. DR. MONCHIK’s practice emphasis is adult and pediatric injuries of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle. He has a special interest in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery, ACL and knee ligament reconstructions, shoulder instability, rotator cuff surgery, meniscal repair, cartilage restoration, concussion management and complex extremity trauma.
