• American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons
  Information on all aspects of orthopedics by the main educational organization of orthopedic surgeons. I have been a member since 1982.

• Arthroscopy Association of North America
  AANA is the largest educational association of arthroscopic surgeons. I have been a member since 1984. This web site deals specifically with issues of arthroscopy - minimally invasive surgery of knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow.

• Avoiding Blood Transfusions in Total Hip and Total Knee Surgery
  Procrit is a medication which can be taken before total joint surgery to raise the hemoglobin level in a person's blood. This substance (erythropoetin) has been used for 30 years in other diseases. I participated in the FDA study which resulted in approval of this drug for total joint surgery. The site also has a very good description of total knee and total hip surgery.

• Bone Graft Substitutes Accelerate Fracture Healing
  I use bone graft substitutes to fill defects and accelerate healing in difficult fractures. This site maintained by Wright Medical Technologies describes these very usefull materials.

  This site discusses commonly used herbal medicines which can interact with medicines routinely used during surgery or can cause excessive bleeding during surgery. Further links from this site to other information about Complimentary and Alternative Medicine therapies.

• Osteoporosis Information
  This web site discusses osteoporosis, bone density testing, risk factors for oteoporosis, and treatment with Fosamax, one of the effective medicines for osteoporosis. It is provided by Merck, makers of Fosamax.

  The AAOS Patient Safety main site and links to forty other patient safety sites.

• Total Joint Replacements
  This site gives information about most of the specific implants I use for total hip, total knee, base of thumb replacements. It is maintained by Wright Medical Technology.
