Dr. Gabriel Brown graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, NY, in 2004. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the prestigious New York Orthopaedic Hospital of Columbia University Medical Center in 2009. As a resident, Dr. Brown assisted in the management of numerous sports teams including Columbia University, the City College of New York, and North Bergen High School, NJ. Additionally, he assisted in coverage of the Tournament of Champions International Squash Event held annually in Grand Central Station.
Dr. Brown completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the world renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, CA, in 2010. He specialized in the treatment of professional, elite and recreational athletes. Team coverage included USC Football, the LA Lakers, LA Sparks, LA Dodgers, Anaheim Angles, Anaheim Ducks and LA Kings. Dr. Brown was assistant head team physician for Loyola Marymount University Men’s and Women’s Soccer and Basketball. Dr. Brown’s sports medicine training in state-of-the-art arthroscopic surgery includes such procedures as arthroscopic-assisted anatomic ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic double-row rotator cuff repair, and arthroscopic labral reconstruction for shoulder dislocation.
As an Orthopaedic Resident and Sports Medicine Fellow Dr. Brown published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters in resident education materials published by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (AAOS), and book chapters in orthopaedic texts aimed at the education of the practicing orthopaedic surgeon. He presented research at national and international meetings and was awarded research grant funding by the Orthopaedic Research Education Foundation (OREF).
Dr. Brown chose to pursue a purely clinical practice in Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, permitting him to focus entirely on the care of his patients. He views the Doctor/Patient relationship as a partnership with the combined goal of returning patients to their desired level of activity. He reserves surgical intervention as a last resort for those patients who fail conservative management of their conditions. He considers patient education regarding their injuries a top priority and provides patients with educational materials to assist in their understanding of strategies to heal their current ailments and avoid future injuries. As an avid runner and triathlete Dr. Brown understands the importance of maintaining a healthy and functional musculoskeletal system. He appreciates both the physical and psychological need to return athletes to their sports and exercise routines.
