My approach to treating patients

The Yale Hand and Upper Extremity service specializes in the evaluation and management of a broad spectrum of injuries and disorders involving the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. Our team consists of physicians who are board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery with added qualification in Hand Surgery. They are members and participate in numerous societies including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Society of Surgery of the Hand, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Members of our team are active in both clinical and basic science research as well as being invited national and international speakers.

In my own practice I see all age groups for a wide variety of hand, wrist, and elbow conditions. Conditions that I treat regularly include degenerative and inflammatory arthritis, tendon disorders, nerve compression syndromes, congenital differences, and traumatic injuries. I believe in engaging the patient as an active participant in their recovery whenever possible. For many conditions surgery is not required. Other treatments may include hand or physical therapy, custom splinting or casting, or injection of a steroid preparation. I will make recommendations, but the patient always has the most important input on treatments decisions.
