My approach to treating patients
I believe a patient should have an active role in his/her medical care. It is my goal to educate the patient about his/her orthopedic problem and then discuss both surgical and non-surgical treatment options. While I may be trained as a surgeon, I would like my patients to understand that many orthopedic problems can be treated effectively without any surgical intervention. I do not want patients to feel overwhelmed with information, but want them to be a part of the team when devising a treatment plan. I think this will allow the patient to be a well-informed decision maker in the process, and will increase his/her confidence in the overall care of the problem.
While I enjoy treating a variety of general orthopedic conditions, my interest is in the surgery of the hand. My goal is to allow patients an expedient return to activity after either an elective procedure or traumatic reconstruction. As a surgeon I fully understand the importance of a well-functioning hand and will approach the care of a patient's hand problem with the same fervor I would want afforded me.
